Stowaway survives flight from Austria to Britain

A 20-year-old Romanian stowaway survived a 90- minute flight in a private plane's wheel compartment and was subsequently arrested, reported the Metropolitan Police Service in London, England.
The private plane was traveling from the Vienna, Austria, airport to Heathrow airport in London, police said. The police were alerted Sunday night. The young man was arrested for stowing away on an aircraft, which is a violation of the Air Navigation Order of 2009.
He was examined by the London Ambulance Service and had no apparent injuries. Police gave him a warning and released him with no further action.

Chihuahua state officials released a statement Tuesday, June 8, demanding a full investigation into the death of the boy who was allegedly shot by a U.S. Border Patrol agent after a confrontation, according to Mexican authorities.
Bing looks to go Hollywood
Bing is hoping to be the next American Idol, or so it would seem from an invitation that CNET just got for a June 22 event in Los Angeles.
The company promises a 40-minute session to announce new updates to the search engine, followed by a panel on the future of entertainment, to be emceed by "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest. The invite also promises musical guests and an LA-worthy after-party.
Whatever the news is, it's not the first foray into the celebrity arena for Microsoft's Web unit. Bing already has an xRank celebrity ranking feature and its MSN unit has a celebrity gossip site called Wonderwall that it developed with BermanBraun.
The company has also been trying to use celebrity ties to promote the broader search engine, partnering this week with Stephen Colbert in a $100,000 donation to Gulf recovery efforts related to the oil spill.

He's riding motorcycles and shooting gunswith Cameron Diaz. He's a movie star, really! Convincing audiences of that has been Cruise's real mission impossible. Once Hollywood's go-to action star, Cruise has seen his big screen productions eclipsed over the last few years by grainy Internet videos of him at Scientology ceremonies, accepting the organization's "Freedom Medal of Valor," saluting founder L. Ron Hubbard, and talking about how the religion changed his life.
His latest major movie roles in the commercially successful but critically questionable "Valkyrie" and the utter flop "Lions for Lambs" shot him further away from "Top Gun" territory. Tom Cruise received mixed reviews for the 2008 WWII drama "Valkyrie." "Tom took too much spotlight away from his career as an actor by heavy handedly preaching Scientology, pushing his romance with Katie Holmes down the public's throats, and acting like he knows all the answers," Village Voice columnist Michael Musto said. "Ever since then, he's been faced with the challenge of restoring the focus to the fact that he's a movie star, not a demagogue with a crush." That may be why he's relying on his most well received role in recent memory, albeit a minor one, to resurrect his reputation.
Cruise spent little time on screen as the hot-headed, filthy-mouthed Les Grossman in 2008's "Tropic Thunder," but grinding to Ludacris' "Get Back" in suspenders, a fat suit and too-tight dress pants garnered him a Golden Globe nomination. The MTV Movie Awards served as the perfectvenue to reintroduce Les Grossman to younger demographic.

Simon Cowell Gives 5-Year Old Girl Last Wish Just Days Before She Dies
A five year-old girl died just three days after achieving her 'Britain's Got Talent' dream by singing for Simon Cowell. Brave Bethany Fenton, who had an inoperable brain tumor, pleaded with her parents to perform 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' in front of the reality TV boss.
Her wish was granted last Saturday when she sang to Simon backstage and told him a knock- knock joke before the TV show's nail-biting final. Bethany also met some of the finalists including 13 year-old drummer Kieran Gaffney who wore her hospital tag on his wrist for luck.
But sadly she lost her fight for life at breakfast time Tuesday at Oxford's Radcliffe Hospital after a sudden deterioration in her condition. Her parents Gemma and Sean were too upset to comment at their home in Fairford, Gloucs. Family friend Robin Thompson said: "Saturday night was the highlight of Bethany's short life. "She told her parents 'It was the most wonderful day of my life and I am so happy'.
"Sean thinks that in some curious way she held on so that she could achieve her dream." Bethany was diagnosed with a tumour last year and surgeons said it was impossible to remove as it was inside the brain, growing outwards. She underwent chemotherapy but a second MRI in September revealed it was still growing. Her parents emptied their savings into a search for possible treatments and Bethany had recently started a new trial treatment at The Royal Marsden in London.
Speaking at the weekend after her dream came true, she said: "I loved them all, especially Kieran, who asked for my wristband to give us both luck. "Simon let me sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star to him. He's so nice and I love him. "The hotel was awesome and all the people so friendly. They made me and my brother Louis so happy. And the food was yummy."
Former soldier Sean, 41, said at the weekend: "The highlight of the day was meeting Simon Cowell, who was a true gentleman, joking with Bethany and listening intently as she sang to him.
"Janey Cutler and Kieran Gaffney really made a fuss of her and when all the acts were on the stage at the end of the show you could see Kieran was holding Bethany's hospital tag for luck. "Amanda Holden completed a great day by giving the family a cake each and telling jokes to Bethany. She was such a nice lady."
Bethany - sister to Louis, 11, Gracie, two, and two month-old Millie - sang to Simon in his dressing room after afternoon rehearsals and met fellow judges and cast over tea.

4 U.S. Troops Killed in Chopper Attack
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP)NATO helicopter was shot down by hostile fire Wednesday in southern Afghanistan, killing four American troops, NATO and the U.S. military said.
Taliban spokesman Qari Yousef Ahmadi said the insurgents shot off two rockets to down the helicopter.
The attack occurred about midday in Sangin district of Helmand province, provincial government spokesman Daoud Ahmadi said. Lt. Col. Joseph T. Breasseale, U.S. military spokesman in Kabul, confirmed the four troops killed were Americans, but the military and NATO gave no other details.
U.S. troops have been building in southern Afghanistan -- the Taliban's heartland -- as part of President Barack Obama's surge strategy to try to end the nearly nine-year-old insurgency. Obama last December ordered some 30,000 more U.S. troops to Afghanistan, and most of them are due to be deployed in the south.
US commanders are planning a major operation in Kandahar that they hope will turn the tide of the war in time for American troops to begin withdrawing on Obama's stated timetable starting in July 2011. Helmand province abuts Kandahar.
Insurgents have stepped up attacks ahead of the Kandahar operation. The spike in violence has killed 28 NATO troops this month, including Wednesday's casualties.

Why smartphones may replace your remote control
Well, TV remote control, it was a very impressive 60-year run. But it may soon be time to say goodbye. No more lost weekends between the couch cushions. No more swapping the order of your AA batteries to get a few more seconds of juice in order to click away from a blaring infomercial. At least, that seems to be the writing on the wall- sized HDTV.
The living room electronics convergence that was promised back in the late '90s has finally started to materialize. Our video game consoles download movies. Our set-top cable boxes can display our friends' Twitter feeds. DVD players and HDTVs themselves can stream Netflix movies and feed our home theaters' YouTube videos. But the humble remote control hasn't really kept up.
Universal remotes have barely evolved in the last 20 years. Clunky, two-handed, touch-screen remotes were in vogue for a while (at least among those who could afford pricey custom installations). And Logitech made a tidy business with its superior Harmony remotes, which downloaded devices' codes from the Internet and could control practically any machine in your living room.
But our HDTVs, media players and set-top boxes aren't very easy to control with a shoe box's worth of assorted remote controls or even the mightiest Harmony device. The PlayStation 3, for instance, uses Bluetooth, making a standard remote useless to control it without an expensive add-on to convert an infrared signal. In May, Google announced a TV partnership with Intel, Sony and Best Buy, among others, to bring more Internet content to TV and more TV content to the Internet.
It's just one more indication that as our home theater devices are increasingly Internet connected, we'll be more dependent on them for basic Web applications and to search for content streaming. You probably won't access all that with a keyboard and mouse or a laptop. You'll be controlling it all with devices you're probably already familiar with -- touch-screen Internet devices like the iPod Touch, Android phones, the iPad and any number of other phone or tablet we've yet to see.
We're getting used to typing on such devices. They allow for easy surfing and, most importantly, they lend themselves well to being living-room TV companions.
U.N. Security Council to vote on tougher Iran sanctions
Diplomats hoping to slap tougher sanctions on Iran because of its nuclear program will vote on a new draft resolution on Wednesday. The United Nations Security Council resolution -- which could change before it comes to a vote - would put restrictions on Iranian entities and individuals, including members of the Revolutionary Guard Corps.
CNN obtained a copy of the circulating draft from a Western diplomat. A closed-door meeting was scheduled for later Wednesday to give Brazil and Turkey a chance to air their views on a nuclear fuel swap, said Mexican Ambassador Claude Heller, the current Security Council president.
Turkish and Brazilian leaders traveled to Tehran in May to broker a deal that was dismissed by the United States as inadequate. The United States faces significant opposition from Turkey and Brazil. The deadly raid by Israeli forces on a flotilla of civilian ships hoping to provide aid to Palestinians in Gaza has complicated matters, especially with Turkey, which had significant numbers of its citizens aboard the flotilla.
The resolution needs nine votes in favor to pass, unless one of the five permanent members of the 15-nation Security Council vetoes it, which is not expected.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad lashed out Tuesday by saying Iran would cease negotiations with the West over its nuclear program if any new sanctions are adopted against his nation.
By calling for a resolution instead of sitting down for talks with Iran, the United States is "gravely mistaken," Ahmadinejad said. "Within the framework of respect and justice, we're ready to negotiate with everyone. Anyone who is going to resort to the language of force and aggression, the response is clear." The draft resolution restates the Security Council's demand that Tehran suspend enrichment activities and other proliferation- sensitive nuclear activities.
It requires Tehran to cooperate fully with the watchdog International Atomic Energy Agency. Among other restrictions the sanctions would impose are an expanded arms embargo; a freeze on assets and a ban on travel of 40 entities and one individual; and a requirement that nations prohibit Iranian investment in foreign commercial activities capable of delivering nuclear weapons.
Fifteen of the 40 entities are "owned, controlled or acting on behalf of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps," three are controlled by the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines, and the remaining 22 are linked to Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programs, two senior U.S. officials said.
Officials say the individual subject to the travel ban is Javad Rahiqi, head of the Isfahan nuclear plant.Another 35 people who were slapped with travel restrictions have been upgraded to full travel bans, the officials said.
